Abstract

The research aims to shed light on the population increase witnessed in the southern governorates of Iraq, which are among the regions that have witnessed the largest population increase in recent years. This is due to several factors, including natural factors such as high natural population growth, and social and economic factors such as internal migration and displacement. This population increase is manifested in the concentration of population in urban centers such as Basra, Nasiriyah, and Amara, due to the availability of public services. The research also aimed to study the impact of population density as a youthful labor force that can be utilized in economic processes, with increased government support for various sectors in the study area, and as a military force in combat and security aspects. The research also focused on the importance of population density in political aspects and the influence of the youth group on the political process at the level of local governments and parliamentary representation as an influential electoral force. This reflects the importance of human resources and their development in this vital and important part of southern Iraq, which can be called the strategic south of Iraq.
